The only real bright spot for me was the polite, friendly staff at check-in. The room itself was extremely basic, with a very squeaky bed, and I was kept awake for much of the night by barking dogs and music. The bathroom fan was incredibly loud, and it came on with the light. I could hear every conversation when the reception phone rang, as well as neighbours using the toilet. Our view was over an empty garden with nowhere to sit or relax, and the interior was underwhelming. I can’t see how this offers three-star standards, or how the price matches what you get. Even Norwegian prisons have higher standards. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere. Without a car it’s very hard to get a taxi or Bolt back from the harbour or beach in the afternoon, and walking takes 45 minutes. There are no streetlights in the evening, and the surrounding area looked neglected, with ugly, ruined buildings. It felt like a third-world country. English was very limited at nearby places, drivers included, which surprised me for a spot like this.

It’s a quiet, isolated spot, but you can walk over to the lighthouse and take in the view. My room was clean and nice, with a little balcony where I could see the ocean in the distance. The staff were friendly. Breakfast was a bit basic, and not having eggs was a dealbreaker for me. There was nobody around to ask about them.

It’s a peaceful place, set back from the ocean and away from the city traffic and commotion, which was just what we needed. The room was lovely, comfortable, and warm despite Peniche being windy everywhere. I also liked the shower and amenities. Breakfast had lots of good choices, though, like almost all hotels in Portugal, there was only cow’s milk and no soy or similar option. Soundproofing wasn’t great either. The reception was amazing, and the hotel looks much better than it does in Google images or maps. If I come back to Peniche, I’ll stay here again.

The room was spacious, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was very good, and there’s plenty of parking. The hotel was easy to find, with a beautiful sea view and a lovely sunset. The bathroom could do with renovation, though. The shower in my room was terrible.
