Casa da Lage

I used the terrace for morning Qi gong, facing the rising sun. It’s a cared-for, clean place with sweeping mountain views, a maze garden and a grape-canopy grove. The property has been in the family for over 300 years, and it was a lovely spot for a retreat.

We had the adjoining guesthouse to ourselves in early June, during the off-season. The children loved having the covered, heated pool and garden lounge area to ourselves, and the place worked well as a base for exploring northern Portugal. The manor house is beautiful and well maintained, about 8km from Ponte de Lima, with furnishings that suit its setting, though they aren't modern. Breakfast was good, and the staff were discreet and attentive. There’s a refrigerator and kitchen appliances in the common room, and the property is fully fenced and guarded. The beds were a bit small, with no double beds, so couples sleep separately. There wasn’t quite enough storage space in our room for four people, and it could get warm in summer. We had a wonderful holiday and would happily return.

I spent an October weekend here with friends. The house is beautiful, the service was excellent, and the rooms and kitchenware were clean. We used the kitchenware for breakfast and dinner. After I got home, I noticed I’d left a bag of jewelry in the room. I called, and Víctor helped get it back to me quickly by mail. They even paid the shipping. Thanks so much!

The owner gave us such a warm welcome, and the quinta is very well kept. There’s a beautiful garden looking out over vineyards and forests, plus a heated indoor pool and a house full of history. A great place if you’re after peace, quiet, and a friendly atmosphere. Highly recommended.
