The villa is in a stunning spot, with quick beach access, and the terrace looks out over the ocean. Breakfast tables are set at the terrace edge, so you get incredible views. The rooms are spacious, comfortable and well equipped. We arrived exhausted after our flight and a 3-hour drive, but check-in took 50 minutes. The host explained things at a leisurely pace and kept getting interrupted by phone calls, which made it draining. Some house rules also felt unnecessarily strict, like not getting the pool chair mattresses wet. Dogs on the property barked at night and early in the morning and disturbed our sleep, so we used earplugs. The complimentary breakfast was basic, mostly bread and sugary items. Healthier choices like eggs, muesli or fruit cost extra, which surprised us. We also had to follow up several times on requests. For instance, it took me 2 days to get extra pillows. For what we paid, we expected hotel-like comfort and freedom, and didn’t feel we got that.

Breakfast by the pool, with the ocean in view each morning, was one of the highlights. Casa Tres Palmeiras is a lovely place for a solo stay or a group trip, and our party of eight adults and three kids fit perfectly in the five rooms. We came with close friends who had stayed here many times, and now I can see why they love it. The house feels like a warm visit to someone’s beloved mid-century home, with a real sense of the region’s history. This charming bed-and-breakfast sits near Portimão in The Algarve district of south Portugal. It overlooks a beautiful beach, yet feels private, with miles of walkable beach access and local eateries at Praia do Vau, plus the shops and buzz of Praia da Rocha. The rooms blend vintage character with modern comforts, and from the moment we arrived, the place felt warm and inviting. Dolly Schlingensiepen, who has called it home since the 1960s, is a remarkable host. She’s known locally for her high standards and kindness to guests, staff and the wider community, and her personal care showed throughout our stay. Surrounded by beautiful landscapes, the property offers a quiet break from everyday life. You can stroll on the beach, visit nearby historic towns, or unwind around the lovely pool. It’s an unforgettable trip back in time, and I wholeheartedly recommend Casa Tres Palmeiras to anyone looking for an authentic, magical stay in The Algarve region of Portugal.

With just five rooms, this clifftop hotel feels wonderfully private, and the beach and restaurants are easy to reach. Breakfast was excellent every time. It’s a perfect spot if you want a book, the beach and remarkable views. One of the best places I’ve stayed, easily in the same league for quality as Post Ranch Inn or any Peninsula-brand hotel.

The view is phenomenal, the rooms are generous and have everything you need, and the service is simply wonderful. Dolly is a super nice owner who has perfected the art of hosting to a level that’s rare these days. We spent 3 days here in August, and every minute was worth it. It’s a magical place on one of the few still unspoiled stretches of the Algarve coast. PS: Tony Sheppard’s review of this B&B is incorrect. It isn’t a restaurant, and there’s no food apart from breakfast and small snacks.

Dolly’s hospitality is impeccable, and every conversation with her leaves you smiling. We felt like royalty here. This was easily one of my favourite stays ever, and we already want to come back, even though we’ve only been away a few days.
