Casa do Cativo

Margarida made us feel like old friends from the moment she welcomed us. She was a gem, full of useful suggestions for things to see and do, and the place was wonderfully run. Jorge, Rebecca, and Nicole were also so welcoming. We had a spacious family apartment that was bright, well equipped, and comfortable. Breakfasts were delicious, with cooked eggs to choose from as well as pastries, bread, ham, and cheese. The hotel has two beautifully furnished shared lounge areas, plus a small dipping pool and sunbeds in the garden. There are only 8 rooms, and the location is fabulous: two minutes from Sao Bento station, with no train noise, and five minutes from a whole street of restaurants and bars. Book early, as it fills up fast, and it’s easy to see why.

Margarida was such a professional. She handled our lost bag problem with so much aplomb that I could have hugged her. Breakfast was a revelation, so good and so chill, and all the indoor and outdoor communal areas were lovely. We were a group with both rooms and apartments, and every one was fabulous. Amazing place to stay. I can’t recommend it highly enough ❤️

The little pool was such a lovely green spot to unwind, and the whole team made us feel so welcome. The house is beautiful, and our room managed to feel both luxurious and homey. I'd recommend it without hesitation. A really hard experience to beat.

The location made getting around easy, with the train station and Time Out food market just a short walk away. We were also so well looked after at Casa do Cattivo, and I'd happily stay again. Margarita greeted us with a warm smile, and George served breakfast, which had fresh eggs, local pastries, fruit, Greek yoghurt, cereal, cold meats and cheeses. It was delicious. The hotel has lovely open spaces and a refreshing pool. Our room was huge and spotless, with everything we needed for a city break, including a hot shower, towels, robes, tea and coffee, and complimentary still and sparkling water.
