The only small annoyance was the very loud music from Jackal, a restaurant tucked into the garden. Even that was a minor flaw; perfection would be boring. This is a charming historic house with a courtyard garden, a very good breakfast and excellent coffee. The lady of the house looked after us like family.

Breakfast was generous every morning, with fresh fruit and homemade items. The owner was a highlight too: she offered helpful tips for places to see, and when we left something behind by mistake, she went out of her way to get it back to us. There was daily housekeeping, and we loved the backyard garden with its orange trees and balcony overlooking it. The room felt clean but still had old-fashioned charm, with high ceilings and big windows. The location is great, walkable to Porto’s historic areas while still feeling authentic and a little removed. There are plenty of fun places nearby, and Crystal Palace Gardens is just down the street. One of the best places we’ve stayed.

My husband and I stayed at Oporto Loft on a recent vacation in Porto, and I’d highly recommend it. The hotel’s across from a lovely, peaceful park, and there’s a beautiful garden on site where you can relax. Our room was large, comfortable and very clean, and the staff were incredibly kind and welcoming. You can walk to everything you’d want to see, then come back to this quiet little oasis for a break from the crowds.

The garden out back and the park nearby made this such a lovely spot, with little independent businesses close by too. Graça was so warm and welcoming. There are beautiful decorations throughout, and breakfast each morning had plenty of fruit. I’d happily recommend it.

Breakfast was a real highlight, with a generous mix of continental options and Portuguese pastries. We also had drinks a couple of times at The Jangle, the restaurant in the garden, which looked lovely. The Oporto Loft Hotel has a quirky feel, mixing art with original features, and all the staff were friendly and keen to share tips about the city. It’s about a 15-minute walk from the old town, a nice distance for walking off all the delicious food and drink. Such a beautiful place.
