If you’re travelling on a budget, this was a pleasant, good value stay in downtown Porto. The caretaker was friendly and helpful, and there are lots of places to eat nearby, including Thali Indian restaurant just opposite, Imperial McDonald’s, and inexpensive halal kebab spots. The room was comfortable, with hot water, working AC, and a balcony window with a nice European feel. Clérigos Tower, Livraria Lello, Porto Cathedral, and Dom Luís I Bridge are all within walking distance. The downsides: reception might not always be staffed, and there’s no lift, so you’ll need to carry your luggage up the stairs.

We stayed for our honeymoon and had a great time. The place was clean, they changed the towels every day, and the AC worked well. It’s close to the train station and lots of good cafes and restaurants. There’s no elevator, just stairs, so it may not suit you if climbing them is difficult. Great place.

The area was central and easy to get around, but there was mold in the bathroom and a moldy smell in both the room and building. There’s no elevator either, and the stairs are long.

The room was small, but it was very clean, well managed, and excellent value for the price.

The staff were nice, and the location is hard to beat. Everything is a 10 minute walk or less. Just know that the stairs are really noisy and you’re right in the city centre, so there’s plenty of street noise. Bring earplugs!
