HF Ipanema Park

During my five-day stay at HF Ipanema Park Porto, I lost a high-value Van Cleef & Arpels bracelet in my room. I’m sharing my personal experience as calmly and honestly as I can. I’m not accusing any employee or guessing at anyone’s intentions, but I think future guests should know what happened. This review is about the missing bracelet, how the hotel responded, its facilities, and breakfast. I reported the loss as soon as I noticed it, before 10:00 AM on Monday. I stayed respectful and cooperative, gave a detailed timeline, answered questions, and was present while housekeeping searched the room, our luggage, the trash, and even the vacuum bags. I didn’t contact the police right away because I wanted to give the hotel a chance to investigate internally and professionally. More than 30 hours passed before I got a formal written response from management, at 4:16 PM the following day. What was confusing was the difference between what I was told in person and what appeared in writing. In several conversations, staff said CCTV footage was being reviewed, focusing on the time periods I’d identified. The official response later said the footage couldn’t actually be accessed or disclosed under GDPR/RGPD unless requested as part of an official investigation. I understand and respect European privacy laws. My concern is that the communication wasn’t consistent or clear. I waited in good faith for the hotel’s formal response and proposed next steps. By then, I’d lost the practical chance to pursue a proper police process before leaving Porto the next morning on my flight back to Budapest. The hotel’s final position was essentially that it couldn’t take responsibility without evidence showing the bracelet disappeared on hotel premises. Update and next session in comment 🙏🏻

The room was spotless, everything worked, and the bed was comfortable. Breakfast was first class, with a big buffet and the best scrambled egg I’ve had at a hotel in a long time. The staff I met were friendly and helpful, and the lobby had a relaxed feel. We arrived very late with a large group and left straight after breakfast, so I didn’t get much time to use the facilities. From what I did see, I was impressed. I’m not sure I’d call it five-star, four-star certainly, but I’d still happily pay good money to stay again.

The staff were kind and welcoming, which is why I’m giving two stars instead of one. The hotel itself feels tired and needs renovation. Room 312 was incredibly noisy: I could hear neighbors snoring, people talking, and the lift, so getting decent sleep or even privacy was impossible. Breakfast was average, and the design doesn’t feel like a five-star standard. It definitely isn’t a five-star hotel.

We had a fantastic week at this hotel. The room was cleaned every day by lovely, detail-oriented cleaning staff, and everyone was so nice that they helped make our stay memorable. The hotel staff were friendly and always quick to help. Highly, highly recommended!
