Homey Guest House

The staff made us feel so well looked after. Luis, Addy, and Luisa were always smiling and ready to help, and when I arrived soaked from the downpour on the short walk from our Uber, Luis took my coat to dry it and lent me his own raincoat for the next two days. That genuine kindness really set the tone. We stayed at Guest House Douro in October 2025, at the end of our 10-day Portugal anniversary trip, and couldn't have picked a better place. The rooms are cosy and on the small side, but the staff have huge hearts. Breakfast was served in a lovely, intimate setting, with pretty fruit displays and excellent coffee. Being right by the Douro River gave us terrific views and people watching. At checkout Luis gave us a bottle of Tawny Port as an anniversary gift, which we enjoyed that evening. Thank you, Luis, Addy, and Luisa for making the occasion so memorable.

We got a warm "welcome home" every evening, and breakfast had thoughtful little touches. Louisa, Luis and Ada took such lovely care of us. Our stay at the Guest House Douro was fabulous, and the staff made it a really special experience.

The rooms were clean and very well kept, and the staff paid exceptional attention to guests. We had a wonderful time at Guest House Douro and would recommend it to anyone. Thanks to the staff, we can't wait to come back.

We had a cosy, comfortable stay and would come back. The room was tidy, with an updated ensuite shower, toilet and sink, and the service was great from making the reservation through departure. The location is great, near the Douro River, shops, restaurants and historic sites.
