Legendary Porto Hotel

The historic center location was a real plus, with plenty of restaurants nearby. There was also a fun street market across the road on Sunday, and it’s only a short walk to the bridge over the river for a great sunset spot. The hotel is simple, but clean and adequate. I’d stay again.

For a hotel that offers good value, the rooms are pretty standard, with a bed, shower bathroom, and coffee-making facilities. The staff all speak good English. You can book breakfast ahead or add it day by day for €15. The buffet has hot and cold options with enough variety to suit everyone, and the little bar beside reception wasn’t expensive. Shops and restaurants are close, and both the city center and Douro river views are about a 20-minute walk away. The hotel is uphill from Soa Bento railway station, which could be a problem with heavy luggage.

We didn't sleep well here and left quite disappointed. The room was very dark, with only two table lamps, and the walls are so thin that we could hear people talking next door and moving furniture at night. The bed and pillows weren't good either. The location was good, and breakfast was nice.

Location was the one positive for us, but we won't stay here again. We spent seven days, and the front desk and breakfast staff were terribly unfriendly and unwelcoming. They need customer service training. The room didn't look like the online photos. It was dated, dark, poorly lit, and filthy. The bottom of our drapes was black with mold, and there was black mold around the bathroom tiles. Breakfast was served in a cold basement, so it wasn't very warm. It wasn't good value when there's a nice breakfast across the street for half the price. I'm writing to corporate as well. This place needs to shut down and reinvent itself.
