The apartment is central and convenient for seeing the city, and we found it clean and comfortable. But the welcome was unacceptable. We arrived early at 12:30, although we’d been told not to come before 1 pm, and tried calling the host to ask about leaving our luggage. Nobody answered. That was all right, since we were early, so we went nearby for lunch. At 1:30 the host said we could check in. When we returned, a cleaning employee greeted us outside the apartment. She seemed stressed and was nervous with us. We were tired after a three-hour trip and just wanted to rest, but we ended up arguing. We found her rude and annoying, and she even threatened us over our IDs. I never saw the host, who was barely reachable by phone. The place might deserve five stars, but respect comes first, especially with customers.

There are plenty of restaurants right outside, a gym two blocks away, and the main sights are close without being in the busiest tourist area. We walked from Trindad station, and the noon checkout was a nice touch. The apartment was bright, with high ceilings, and very clean. The furniture felt cheap, the bed was too firm for me, and the pillows were horrible. I’m not sure about the “view”. I suppose it’s the other apartments five metres away.

The location and facilities were good, but dealing with the host made for a very unhappy stay. They insisted on charging us 30 euros for late check-in even though we tried our best and arrived before midnight. Booking.com says check-in is from 15:00 to 20:00, but nowhere does it say there’s an extra charge after 20:00. In their pre-arrival message, they said a fee applied for check-in between midnight and 1 am, so we did everything we could to arrive before 00:00. They were very aggressive and told us we had to pay or couldn’t stay. We paid because it was too late to find another place, and we’d already paid the full amount, around 80 euros.

The owner was really nice and helpful, and the apartment itself was beautiful, large, clean and tidy. It’s near the centre of Oporto. At night the floor made a bit of noise when we walked, and the shower flow was really poor, but otherwise it was a lovely place.

The house and apartment were very clean. The woman who handed us the key was really friendly and helpful, and we used the airport shuttle without any problems.
