Timbre Virtudes

Dinner was fantastic, and the chef even sent us a complimentary dessert. Jose at the bar was wonderful, taking time to tell us about the area. We also enjoyed watching the sunset from our clean room’s little balcony. On arrival, reception welcomed us with drinks, made check-in quick and easy, and helped with our luggage. Leaving was just as smooth, with staff offering to carry our bags to our transport. We spent two nights here in Porto and had a memorable stay. Looking forward to another holiday here.

I was very disappointed by the value for money. This really didn’t feel like a five-star hotel to me, more like a 3+ at best. I ended up moving to a lower category room. The building has lovely decoration, especially downstairs, with stone walls and a wooden roof. Most of the staff were kind, and breakfast runs for a long time, from 7:30 to 11. The room was extremely cramped, about 15 square meters, with no proper place for clothes and not enough space for a desk and chair. Even though it was sold as a double room, the bed was only 140 cm wide, not even queen size, and a king size wouldn’t fit. The bathroom felt like a tiny closet. In the duplex, one bed is on the entrance level, where corridor noise reaches the sleeping area, and the little upstairs relaxation space didn’t seem useful. Noise came through constantly: slamming doors, footsteps in rooms, TVs and conversations, water running elsewhere, and street noise even on the third floor. There was no heating despite nighttime temperatures of 10 degrees outside, and the room was only about 15 degrees in the morning. The air conditioning was stuck on dehumidifying, with no heat, and nobody apologized. Lighting was far too dim for reading unless I stood near the tiny window. Wifi didn’t work on the duplex’s upper floor on either network, ‘’Timbre Virtudes Wi-Fi’’ or ‘’308 Quarto.v.’’ There was only one remote for two TVs on separate floors. When I asked for another, I was first told there was just one TV; after checking, they suggested carrying the remote up and down the stairs each time. The upstairs TV was broken, with nearly a third of the screen dark. There was no iron, and construction started right in front of the hotel, about 5 meters from the windows, at 8 in the morning.

Breakfast was great, and the hotel was spotless. Everyone was attentive and kind, especially the woman who helped us at breakfast. The curly-haired woman at reception handled the crisis we had so well and was incredibly helpful, clearly very good at her job. It’s obvious they choose their staff carefully. We were very satisfied.

The old part of Porto is right nearby, with lots of main sights close at hand. The streets are charming but uneven, so getting to the hotel on foot isn’t especially wheelchair accessible, much like much of the city. Our room didn’t have a particular view. Inside, everything felt new and thoughtfully put together. The modern rooms were comfortable and had everything we needed, while breakfast had loads of fresh, delicious choices. The staff were welcoming and friendly throughout. It was a fantastic stay, and I’d gladly come back.
