Getting to the metro was easy, just a short walk, and that made exploring Porto convenient. The owner was incredibly warm and welcoming. The building has a charming historic character, while my room was cosy and comfortable. I had a wonderful stay and would highly recommend it to anyone wanting a comfortable, distinctive place in a handy location.

I was surprised that some reviews aren't positive. When we arrived, the host was extremely friendly and showed us around, explaining the hotel's amenities and where everything was. It's clean and in a great location. I'd recommend staying at Porto Grand Sasimi!

The hosts were so kind and looked after us really well, which made the three nights comfortable. It's a great base for walking around, and the Faria train station nearby made it easy to get back even after going farther away. If you're travelling alone, it's a good value place to stay.

This was the best of the five hotels I stayed at in Porto. A caring family from Nepal runs it, and the rooms are proper, with good beds and a great shower. There's a lovely yard, and the reception and keys have that feel of a good old hotel. Coffee and shops are nearby. Beautiful place. Local time in Kathmandu 🎈🎈🎈🎈🎈

I gave this three stars because the listing didn't match what the place actually is. Had I known what to expect, I might have given it another star. It's better to think of it as a guesthouse than a hotel, so here's what I found. There isn't a lift, but it's an old European building, so that wasn't a surprise to me. At most, there are three short flights of stairs to reach your room, and staff will help with luggage. The stairs also leave room for more Pasteles de Nata! Each floor has a shared kitchen, and there's a garden too. I didn't use either, but they looked well equipped. Rooms vary. Mine had a toilet separate from the shower. Don't expect hotel extras like soap, a kettle or complimentary water. They did provide clean towels, which should be enough for a few days or a week in summer. There was no daily housekeeping or room turnover service. The family running the place had only recently arrived in Porto, and I got the sense they may have been new to hospitality. They bought the building as is and seemed to be trying to manage the business while dealing with all the work it needs. In my view, they might have avoided negative feedback by finishing the remodeling before opening, but they're doing their best in what must be a tough situation. Reception wasn't staffed consistently, so sometimes you might need to call or look for someone in the building. The service was generally good, and the staff were friendly, polite and helpful. My favorite part was meeting the family. They were lovely and clearly tried hard to keep things running smoothly. My room was clean and the bed comfortable, but there were plenty of problems: lifting floors, torn wallpaper, bathroom doors fitted incorrectly, curtains that didn't fit the windows, broken blinds, and too few power points, furniture and storage. Shower pressure was usually good, though it stopped altogether once when another guest was showering at the same time. Sound insulation is very poor, as others have said. Still, it was generally quiet, and after 11pm there was no trouble sleeping. The neighborhood looked a bit sketchy but was actually safe and quiet, even late at night. It's about a 20 minute walk to the town centre and roughly 10 minutes to Trindade, a main metro station, so getting to the airport and around the attractions was easy. For a laid-back traveller, it's a decent option if you're happy with a safe, clean and comfortable place without luxury.
