The easy access and the fact that the house had the basic things we needed were positives. Parking was easy too, though there isn't an actual parking area. People in Reguengos de Monsaraz and Monsaraz were friendly and welcoming, and the regional wine, olive oil, and black pork were very good. There were plenty of problems as well. The people in São Pedro do Corval were very unfriendly, didn't return a good morning, and we waited a long time for service in every establishment. Debris from the trees at the neighboring house made the outdoor area less comfortable and hygienic. The plants also meant there were bees around the yard all the time, which was difficult for someone with a bee allergy and a dog staying there. There were many kinds of spiders inside and outside. It wasn't a critical issue, but one guest had arachnophobia, so it made the stay harder. The mattress was uncomfortable and the lighting was poor. We found the hospitality lacking, despite what I'd read in several comments before the trip. We never met the host. The wooden ceilings had no insulation, so we could hear animals walking above us and regular parties at the accommodation next door. It was also hard to find places where we could be with our dog. Even some terraces refused to serve us, though she was small and didn't bark 😅 Taken together, these issues and the very high temperatures led us to leave the accommodation early, without contacting the host. We booked through Airbnb, and only after we shared all these problems after the trip dates had passed did Senhor Luís get in touch. He called repeatedly and insisted on knowing how far in advance we'd left, even though we hadn't asked for any refund. Once we told him the days, he stopped replying too. On the app he still said he couldn't contact us, even though he'd been the one to stop responding at the very start of the stay, and after all this confusion 🤦🏽‍♀️ A five-star rating for the accommodation doesn't guarantee everything will go well. You see people's attitude when difficulties come up.
