Cro Hotel Rural e Termal Spa

We really appreciated the hotel's offer of a discount on a future stay and a free dinner after we shared our feedback, but we won't be coming back. The room was the one good part of the experience. They apparently have ongoing hot water problems, so we had to shower in cold water in winter. We'd booked this hotel specifically for the bath, which made that especially disappointing, and the spa pool was cold too. For a four-star hotel, breakfast was very basic, with cakes bought from a store. Table tennis, arcade games, and pool all cost extra. They're in a room where the floor tiles are coming loose, apparently due to water damage.

The staff were great and very warm, and the pool was lovely. Some of its jets weren't working, but the surroundings made the trip worthwhile. Our room was great, though the bathroom is an odd setup. Whether you find it fun depends on how comfortable you are with your roommate. Breakfast had a good variety and was great. The restaurant was only okay: my octopus risotto had far too much cheese and was barely edible. I paid full price, and no solution was offered, though I didn't push for one.

We booked a room on agoda.com for dec 25-25th 2025, but when we arrived, the hotel was empty. There were no people or cars around, no lights, and everything was locked. It's literally in the middle of nowhere, so you can only get there by car. There wasn't even a contact number on the door. Since it gets dark early in December and it was Christmas, when everything is closed, we felt uneasy staying there and worried we wouldn't find anywhere else in this very remote part of Portugal. We left and asked for a refund. Agoda and the hotel replied that they had been there and asked me to prove the hotel was actually closed. They rejected my review on agoda, and I never got my 60 eur back. I can't comment on the rooms, spa, or restaurant we planned to try on our break. The whole trip was ruined by unqualified staff.

We made a last-minute booking and had a nice stay. The large, free parking area was handy, and breakfast had a good selection. The hotel is very quiet, with calm, dimly lit corridors that make it feel stress-free. Our room was spacious, with a nice bath that looks straight outside when the curtains are open. I didn't have time to use the pool, so maybe next time.
