Memmo Baleeira - Design Hotels

We spent six nights at Memmo Baleeira, and the direct access to a quiet, beautiful beach was a real plus. The garden has beach chairs, nice for catching some sun even on cooler days. Our balcony looked out over the sea, and the view was stunning, though the chairs weren’t especially comfortable. Breakfast was fantastic, with lots of choice, fresh fruit, pastries, coffee and tea. There was even a tea station for mixing your own blends. Dinner at the hotel was okay, but we wouldn’t recommend it specifically in Sagres since there are better options in town. Staff were mostly fine and helpful when asked, though sometimes rushed or distracted. When we requested bathrobes, the staff member wasn’t very friendly at first, but they arrived within half an hour. You can book plenty of activities through the hotel, including surfing lessons, boat tours, and wine tastings. We tried a one-hour morning yoga class for €22 per person and really enjoyed it. The teacher was great. It’s a beautiful hotel with plenty of highlights, especially the breakfast and beachfront setting.

Our two-bedroom suite was enormous, with two large bedrooms and their own bathrooms, plus a very big living, dining, and kitchen area. Everything was modern, clean, and updated, and the beds were extremely comfortable. The pillows were the exception: cheap fiberfill, and down or feather ones weren’t available. My corner bedroom looked out over the harbor on one side, with wall-to-wall glass doors along the other side opening to an equally long balcony. Service was top-notch, and the restaurant was fantastic. I especially recommend the brick-oven pizzas. The outdoor pool was lovely, with plenty of loungers, a charming bar, and hedges and walls that kept some of the wind off. The small fitness center was uncrowded and had a few machines and weights. I used the treadmill and elliptical, both of which were fine. This is a fantastic resort at the far western end of the Algarve, and a peaceful escape from the crowds further east. The public beach in town was a 10-minute walk and not at all crowded, unlike the packed beaches closer to the centre. The tradeoff is the distance from the Algarve’s main attractions: Lagos and its famous sea caves, cliffs, and beaches are an hour away.

If you’re travelling around Portugal by car, this is the best resort hotel in SAGRES. The property is huge and beautiful. Get a sea-view room and you can enjoy the view 24 hours a day. There’s a rich breakfast buffet every morning, and the hotel staff are friendly, especially Tania at the front desk.

We loved staying here. It’s in such a beautiful location, and the food and drinks at the hotel were really good. The view from our balcony was spectacular.
