Hotel Solverde Spa & Wellness Center

The reception and restaurant staff were fine, but the bar experience was awful. When I asked the barman for a bottle of water, he got angry with me. After he asked for my room number, I changed my mind and decided not to pay for it anyway. I hope management sees this and pays attention to the bar. Maybe the hotel owners or evaluators call it five stars, but it didn’t feel like a true five-star place. It was the worst service I’ve had in the hotels I’ve stayed at so far. The room felt old-fashioned and smelled of old furniture, and the bathtub hadn’t been cleaned very well. It’s also not close to the city centre. I was here with my company for training, but if I get the chance to visit Porto, I’d definitely choose somewhere better.

I’ve been coming here for four years, both for trips to the office and when hosting clients. It’s affordable and convenient, and the rooms are clean, comfortable and great. The location works well, close to Espinho, Porto and Nova Gaia. There’s plenty of choice at breakfast, and the food in the bar and restaurant is great. Staff are friendly and accommodating, and the laundry is quick and very affordable. I’ve stayed at many hotels around here, and this one is easily my favorite.

The staff were fantastic, very polite and keen to help, even if they didn’t always have the answers. Breakfast was another bright spot, with lots of variety in a big, sunny room. The rooms were okay, but very dated, with tiny old bathrooms. There are no modern USB ports, so bring your chargers. We kept sneezing from the carpets, which didn’t seem to have been cleaned properly in a while. The place looks like a prison block from outside, and inside it’s dark and dingy. It feels shabby and unattractive, nowhere near what I’d expect from a five-star hotel. The food was very mediocre, especially for the price. The pool area also lacks style and sophistication. There’s no jacuzzi, and access costs 25€ per person for 30 minutes. The sauna is nice.

The room doors between neighboring rooms can be opened, so you hear everything from next door. The beds and pillows were bad too, and the bathrooms had mold with things broken. The hotel feels very old, with no renovation or upgrades since it was built. Maybe it deserved five stars back then, but that was a long time ago. There was no compensation for the conditions we had to put up with, so I’d strongly recommend looking for another hotel.
