Casas da Lapa Nature and Spa

The trails nearby take you to beautiful valley views and river pools, and the two pools at Casas da Lapa meant there was sun for most of the day. We loved our room’s big windows opening straight onto the grass, as if we were stepping into a garden. The staff were incredibly warm and kind, and booking the spa privately made it feel like our own little retreat. Breakfast was perfect, with meats, pastries, and eggs served high-tea style. Dinner service was great, though the menu, such as duck with orange sauce, wasn’t quite to my taste. A peaceful, charming place to get away.

The food was incredible, and the hotel itself is beautiful. The hosts and staff were amazing. I’d recommend it without hesitation.

The food was so good that we ate at the hotel every night during our three-night stay, and we didn’t regret it. Dinner is a set menu at 45.- Euro per person, wine included, which felt fair for the quality. Breakfast is freshly made rather than buffet style, and it was great. We had room number 1, with a really nice, unusual layout. The hotel is something special, and I’d give it six stars if I could. The indoor pool and sauna need to be booked ahead for private one-hour use, free of charge. If the hotel isn’t busy, they may allow a two-hour slot. We skipped the outdoor pools because it was already too cold. There’s a 2.5 hours loop hike that starts right at the hotel. It’s a nice walk, with plenty of ups and downs and some rocks to climb over. In October we were more or less on our own. One thing to know before driving in: the last about 300 meters to the hotel have some very narrow sections and tight turns. A regular car can manage, but drive carefully, and with a wide car you may need to fold in the mirrors.

We had planned to stay three nights, but I injured my back and ended up stuck in the room. Owner Maria-Manuel personally took me to the hospital and helped me get medication. The staff brought food to our room and gently took care of everything we needed. When we later needed a shower that was easier to access, the owner upgraded us to a suite with one. The room had been spotless and very comfortable, and the facilities were well equipped and pleasant. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and the other amenities were gorgeous. Even with what happened, we truly enjoyed the hotel’s warmth and hospitality. I couldn’t have imagined such caring service. Thank you!
