Loriga is a charming village, right in the centre of it all, with friendly cafés and good restaurants nearby. The hostel is wonderful too, with spacious, spotless rooms and lovely views of the Estrela mountains. Emanuel is a very welcoming host and is always around with helpful ideas for making the most of your visit. The hike to the Calhão Mogueiro waterfalls is well worth doing, especially if you fancy a refreshing swim on a hot summer day.

Margarida and her husband arranged a Jeep tour through Serra da Estrela for us, and I’d happily recommend it. It was a lovely way to see the landscape and its many waterfalls while learning about the area’s history. Our guide didn’t really speak English, but Google Translate let us communicate well. He was also very kind and thoughtful with our two-year-old daughter, and took some great photos of us afterwards.

We had an unforgettable canyoning trip with EntreSocalcos, a wild water swim in a magnificent setting. Our guide Emanuel was professional, patient, welcoming, and clearly knew his work. It felt safe throughout, and there was always the option to rappel down instead of jumping the waterfalls. Loriga itself is warm and cosy, with lovely people, food, and accommodation. A top experience!

Cosy, clean place with great facilities and a well-equipped kitchen. The staff were super friendly. My only gripe was the mattress, which was too soft for someone like me who prefers a hard one. I didn’t sleep that well.
