The historic house and farm buildings give the place a lot of charm, and the accommodation itself is roomy and comfortable. There’s a roughly 15-meter pool, too. It feels much more peaceful than other places on the Setúbal peninsula, with open pastoral land out front and wooded hills, sea cliffs, and plenty of hiking and biking trails to the south.

The pool is wonderful, and free bicycles make it easy to explore this huge private estate and nature reserve. It feels a bit like staying at a National Trust property, with high-quality accommodation. There’s a nearby palace where the Duke lives, and Lusitano horses are still bred here. Sesimbra is about a 10-minute drive away.

These farm villas are a lovely base for hiking and birdwatching right from the door. The right trails lead up to cliffs with stunning views. With a car, you can reach beautiful beaches, or drive to the port for boat trips, fishing, and scuba diving. Conventinho da Arrabida is also worth a visit by car, a beautiful monastery with gorgeous sea views.
