Águamel Boutique Guest House

Only stayed one night, but it was a cute little hotel with a comfortable room, close to town and restaurants.

Getting to the place wasn't easy, but once we were inside, we loved its charm and central location. The little hostel was clean and smelled nice, and our room was beautiful and well decorated. Breakfast was quite decent, and the employees were courteous, respectful and friendly. I hope I can return someday.

I checked out and left. The person I called at the hotel wasn't helpful, and my room's broken door didn't feel safe for my belongings. The room was much smaller than the photos suggested, and there was no proper bathroom: the toilet and shower were only surrounded by glass. The room was a joke, nothing like anything I've had in all my travels. The reception wasn't in the house, and on the day I arrived I got an email saying I couldn't park there during the day. There are no parking spaces, and the city is overcrowded. Breakfast starting at 9am was too late for me. None of these important details were on the website. I know it's hard to find hotels there, but I'd recommend staying in Lisbon and taking the train. That's much better than this overpriced little cabin at the hotel.

Manuel, the owner, and Sofia at the front of house were really friendly and accommodating. They were understanding about us travelling with our baby son, and gave us excellent recommendations. The room was spacious by European standards, tastefully decorated, with cute bookshelves and nooks and a decent-sized closet. The buffet was excellent for a guest house this size, with homemade croissants and coffee cakes. There's complimentary tea, water and cakes in the lobby, plus an honesty kitchen where you can buy yogurt, wine and bottled water from the fridge. The place was very clean, spacious and classy, and the service was excellent. A couple of things could be better: the first emails before we arrived felt a little cold and confrontational, and there was a bit of mould in the shower grout. We tried leaving the shower fan on to clear the moisture, but Sofia told us to turn it off, so, shrug. Really lovely people overall.
