Casa Miradouro

Breakfast costs extra, but it made sense for us since the other restaurants were at least a 15-minute walk away. We ate outside on a sunny morning, with fresh squeezed orange juice, muesli and extra seeds and nuts, dried fruit, yogurt, different breads, cheese, prosciutto, fresh fruit, and eggs and bacon cooked to order. The gardens are beautiful, and the place is quiet, with a large lobby divided into three rooms. Our comfortable, well-appointed room had a small balcony with a view all the way to the Atlantic. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The shower was a real problem: the cold tap only worked at high pressure, so we could have either boiling hot water or a cold shower. And when we arrived at 10 p.m., there were two child-sized duvets on the double bed. Imagine trying to share those on a queen or king bed in winter. We’re only 1.70m tall, so I can only imagine how it would be for taller people. I felt like I was staying in a poor hostel, not the nice, well-recommended B&B I expected from a €90-a-night room. There was no parking or breakfast included. The receptionist didn’t try to sort out our complaints in the morning. She charged us for everything we owed and said she would check the tap and pass the complaints along. Before the stay, Charlotte gave us great attention over email. We got the room we requested and were able to change the dates within the allowed limit. But I wouldn’t recommend this place. Look elsewhere for somewhere more honest and professional.

The place is cute and quaint, just outside the centre, and the staff were cheerful and friendly. Our room was clean and lovely, with enough space for two, though there were lots of stairs. Breakfast was small, but the eggs and bacon were nice. Parking is on the street, if you can find a spot.

Our stay was easy and great. Having a car or using Uber helps for getting to town and back. I feel bad that we forgot to leave a tip for Donna, who handles breakfast and looks after the hotel.
