Sintra and its castles are right nearby: Quinta da Regaleira is a five-minute walk and the white cone Sintra PALACE is three minutes away. Lord Byron, Poet, stayed in this cozy hotel, the oldest on the Iberian Peninsula, and was inspired by Sintra. I’m coming back, yes! The staff made me feel like family. Amanda, the manager, and the others were attentive, and Amanda called the night before my trip to ask if I needed anything for my early airport departure. She arranged a breakfast to take along. Marcos and Iris served wonderful FREE breakfasts in the beautiful restaurant, looking out at the thick green forest beside UNESCO’S National Park. Hugo and Pedro even brought specially prepared coffee or tea at 5:00 am for no charge. They know Sintra well, especially Pedro, who said he walked trails near castles as a teenager. Amanda, Marcos, Iris, Hugo and Pedro were all so welcoming and cooperative.

The location is great for exploring Sintra, and I’d recommend staying at least a night to take in the history. The views were stunning, the room was spacious by European standards, and breakfast was included and substantial. Though it’s the oldest hotel on the Iberian peninsula, it’s kept in immaculate condition and still has all its charm. We enjoyed wandering around and discovering small features like the library. Staff were friendly and attentive, and the welcome port at check-in was a lovely touch. I’d expected the old building might feel creepy, but it didn’t at all. I’m so glad we stayed.

We had a Superior Double Room with a balcony, and it was just right for our stay. There were plenty of breakfast choices, too. The hotel is well placed just outside the centre, only a three-minute walk from the main historic centre. It also happens to be the oldest on the Iberian peninsula.

There are three free parking spots right in front of this historic hotel, built in 1764, and more free street parking a few meters away. It’s just steps from the busy Central Village center, with a nice view of trees and Brooks, and everything is within walking distance. Breakfast was great, and service was super friendly and professional.

We got an upgraded room, and for the birthday the hotel surprised us with sparkling wine and a small cake. A really thoughtful touch. Breakfast was amazing, and the location is excellent. It costs a bit more, but felt worth the value. We had a wonderful stay.
