There’s plenty of room here, so it could work well for a quiet stay with friends, but I’ve never seen so many flies in one place. After that, things only went downhill. The facilities need a lot of work. The showers aren’t great, the toilets sometimes broke and the water could be heard running all the time. The kitchen had problems too, including a broken oven and too few fridges. The worst part was a dispute with the owner. He was rude and disrespectful, and imposed so many restrictions that our family and friends couldn’t enjoy ourselves. Stay away.

The pool looked like it hadn’t been cleaned in weeks when we arrived, and the outdoor furniture was shabby and dirty. The place doesn’t look like the website photos anymore. I’m writing a genuine review, despite the owner’s protestations. There’s no air conditioning in the rooms, not even a fan. Portugal can be freezing, but in June it can also reach 38C. Avoid this place. If you’re thinking of booking, ask to see the rooms first. Even at €40 a night you can find better. They charged us €110 per room per night 😱

We had a delicious homemade dinner there for a very reasonable price. The highlight was an orange cake made that afternoon with oranges we’d watched the chef pick from the garden. My husband and I had a lovely night at Quinta do Lagar. It’s a beautiful place and the hospitality was warm. Breakfast was continental, with yogurt, fresh rolls, homemade preserves, and freshly squeezed orange juice, just right to start the day. Thanks to the staff. We’ll be back!
