Quinta dos Carqueijais Resort & Wellness

We found the experience disappointing and wouldn't recommend the resort. The uphill paths were hard to manage, with no handrails and too little lighting at night, and there aren't any convenience stores nearby for basic supplies. Our room wasn't in good condition. It had no coffee, sugar, or sweetener, and when we asked, we were told those were only available at breakfast. The air conditioning didn't heat the room, so it was uncomfortably cold. The spa wasn't clean and the pool water didn't seem well maintained. With the windows wide open and no privacy curtains, guests were exposed, and gardening work nearby added to the disruption. The massage from Alexandra could have been better if her son hadn't kept coming in and out of the spa. She brought him along, which felt unprofessional. Pool access also costs €25 per hour. Breakfast was minimal and not very satisfying.

The staff made us feel at home. Alexandra and the whole team were friendly, attentive, and helpful, and we especially appreciated that. We spent a birthday weekend at Villa Plátanos, at Quinta dos Carqueijas (Valdosende – Gerês), looking for quiet time and a chance to be together. It was perfect for that, surrounded by nature with plenty of privacy and calm. Our villa dos platanos was clean, cozy, and well equipped, which worked especially well for my mother’s dietary restrictions. We brought our own food and could cook easily. Breakfast was a lovely surprise, delicious and thoughtfully made with local products. Driving there was easy, even from Porto. The last few minutes are up a steeper hill, but it was very manageable. The stay exceeded our expectations, and we hope to come back.

A lovely stay, with a surprise hamper breakfast waiting at the door. The staff were very kind, helpful, and full of useful information. It’s a perfect countryside escape, relaxing beneath the olive trees with beautiful lake views.

The terrace and other outdoor areas are great, with breathtaking views. The villa worked for our family of four, though it wasn't especially spacious. To unfold the couch, we had to fold up the table. The setting is lovely, in the woods beside the river, where you can swim, or use one of the outdoor and indoor pools. Breakfast delivered to the villa was excellent.
