We slept so well, and the shower had great water pressure and temperature. Our hosts were genuinely friendly, and we enjoyed an authentic Portuguese dinner at the hotel with excellent vineyard wine. The valley views were incredible, and the grounds were relaxing, with a pool, loungers, a clean changing room and bathroom, and plenty of birdsong. The road really isn’t bad. The valley is steep, so there’s some exposure, but it’s all well maintained. Definitely worth it!

The host was very welcoming, and it was a relaxing stay in a beautiful setting. The room was comfortable and very clean, with stunning panoramic views from the pool. Dinner service was the one disappointment: it was incredibly slow, and the steak wasn’t good.

Beatrice was a delight. She showed us around and led a tasting, sharing her enthusiasm for Douro Valley history and her family’s winemaking heritage. We then had a lovely dinner together in the dining room beside a warm fire, and the chocolate mousse became another favorite from our trip. Breakfast was lovely too. The rooms had the kind of authentic Portugueses comfort we enjoyed, and the beds had the softest sheets of the trip. During our family trip in late December, waking up at Quinta do Silval to morning fog over the hills and beautiful vineyards was one of my favorite moments in Portugal. The whole setting feels magical, with views in every direction, and photos don’t do it justice. It’s only a short distance from Pinhao. Quinta do Silval was a highlight of our trip.

It was 40°C when we visited in August, so the room’s good air conditioning was much appreciated. The room was comfortable and had basic amenities, and the charming hotel manager and owner was helpful and clearly in control. The grounds are lovely, with flowers buzzing with bees, so watch which ones you stop to smell. There’s plenty of space to park, though it isn’t conventional parking. Up high in the hills, with vineyards all around, the hotel has fabulous views from every side. The cute pool has fantastic scenery too. Getting there takes a bit of nerve: it’s off the main road down a steep, narrow cobbled lane where only one vehicle can pass at a time. All in all, a charming place.

Beatriz makes you feel right at home. It’s a wonderful spot to rest and enjoy the Douro valley, with good dinners and a chance to taste port wine and learn all about it. As a tour guide, I’m glad to know this place. I know my customers will be happy 😃
