The location is right by the route, but there are no restaurants nearby and no kitchen to use. The only dinner option is offered at the hostel for €13, which seems very expensive. Breakfast is included, though there wasn’t much to write home about. The room was hot and smelled of sweat, and opening the window and hallway door for a bit of air meant waking whenever someone went to the toilet, as the lights came on automatically with movement. It didn’t feel very clean either: there was a blood stain on the sheets, and sand and dust everywhere. The room was small, with the beds close together. The middle bunks were right beside each other, so I heard every sound from the person next to me all night. This was one of the worst nights on the Camino so far.

Ana, Host from Alvorada Medevial, made this the best pilgrim evening of my Camino Portuguese. She was lovely and helpful, and the pilgrim dinner she provided was special. Before dinner, she spoke about the spirit of the Camino, which made the evening really unique. Thank you! Gerald / Vienna.

The evening was made even nicer by some pilgrims playing the musical instruments available. The showers are modern and clean, and the pool was lovely after a day on the Camino. This albergue is clean and new, built in the last five years as a complete rebuild of an existing stone structure. The host is what makes the place special. They’re pilgrims too, called to open the albergue and run it with a servant heart. We had a wonderful, great-value pilgrim meal served family style with other pilgrims, which made it memorable. It’s on the Coastal Route, and we took an Uber from Velenca Central Route, about 5km.

You get breakfast included, and there’s the option to have dinner together with the other pilgrims for 12€, drink included. The owners are really amazing and drinks are reasonably priced. This place really gets the Camino spirit into you. It’ll be the best albergue of your Camino. Trust me! Buen camino!
