Casa da Vila

Vila Nova da Barquinha's municipal seat has an interesting building and a well-kept square, with restaurants and cafés nearby. There's parking behind it and a lovely riverside park. Service is prompt, and the staff are friendly.

I was disappointed by the recent renovation of the Câmara square. When I last visited Barquinha four years ago, it looked prettier.

Everyone at Camara is friendly and patient, and they’re glad to help however they can!

Vila Nova da Barquinha is a municipality, an administrative area with its own corporate status and usually its own government or jurisdiction. The word can also refer to the governing institution, like a town hall. Unlike a special-purpose district, a municipality is a general-purpose administrative subdivision. The term comes from French municipalité and the Latin municipium, the old Roman designation. It describes a territory with legal personality and a degree of autonomy, organized through administrative and political bodies. In Portugal, concelho and município are distinct ideas: a município is a local authority made up of different bodies.
