I’ve been visiting Monte Rei to play golf since 2013 and have stayed at the resort with my family. The service has always been excellent, and I’ve often recommended it to friends and family. I was looking forward to returning in September with a group of friends who had played there before, but our enquiry was turned down because there were six of us. We were told that in September they only take bookings for groups of four or multiples of four. That surprised me. Other courses would split us into a four ball and a two ball, then add two more people to our group of two, and we’d be fine with that. Monte Rei didn’t even offer this option. It seems they’re trying to make things easier for themselves and maximize income during busy periods, but this policy could hurt them over time by upsetting loyal regulars. My friends and I will think twice before returning, and we won’t speak about Monte Rei as positively anymore. I never thought I’d write this kind of review, but I’m very disappointed. Come on, Monte Rei, you can do better.

The apartment was fantastic, really modern and high quality. The golf course was amazing, with wonderful holes. The people here provided great service and did great work. Highly recommended, and we’ll definitely come back. 🙂👍🏻

What a fun round, all 18 holes were a pleasure to play on this beautiful course set into the natural landscape. We were welcomed warmly when we arrived, and everyone from reception to the starter was lovely. After the game, they kindly cleaned our clubs and loaded them into the car. It was a five-star experience, and we’ll be back. Just watch out for the tall bunkers!

We loved staying here. The villas gave us loads of room, with huge bedrooms and generous living areas. Everything feels peaceful, with beautiful gardens and golf courses kept in immaculate shape, and the staff were lovely and helpful.

The course was in great shape overall, and the layout is still a real highlight, with rewarding challenges, excellent bunkers, and lovely scenery. The greens had started to show wear, though they still rolled beautifully and made for a fair round. I played here on 7 September 2025, and our two-ball took 4 hours 15 minutes. That sounds reasonable, but we caught the group ahead by the third hole, and at one point four groups were backed up on one hole, disrupting the pace. With new ownership in place, it'll be interesting to see how things are handled from here. The pro shop staff were friendly and attentive when we arrived, which was a great start. I wanted a bacon sandwich before teeing off, but it wasn't available. I tried the pulled pork instead and didn't enjoy it. The buggy sat nav was handy for distances and directions around the course. Afterwards, clubhouse service felt slow, although they were dealing with a group of 12. The clubhouse is comfortable but looking a little tired and could use some investment to match the course. It wasn't quite as good as my visit in May 2024, but I still thought it was good value. Monte Rei remains a memorable course I'd recommend, even if it isn't in the pristine condition it had in earlier years.
