Roses Village

The photos didn't show what the home was really like. We rented four bedrooms plus the kitchen and living area, but the main living space was downstairs in the basement, dark and musty. There was mold in the dining and living area, and one shower drained so slowly that I had to stop bathing to let the water run off. A bathroom door wouldn't close because the wood had swollen, and the entrance to our rented space had a broken window that let the cat in, despite being told the cat never came inside. We had booked two years earlier, in 2014, for a family vacation in 2016, and paid over 2,500 Euros for a week, June 14 to June 21, 2016. There were six adults: my two grown daughters and their husbands, my husband, and me. We left after one night. One daughter was pregnant and worried about the mold, and my husband is allergic to cats and had an asthma attack that needed medical attention. The train also ran frequently through the night and was far too loud for decent sleep on vacation. We'd travelled from the west coast US for a family holiday, so we decided to enjoy ourselves despite the extra cost. That afternoon we booked three rooms at the nearby Sol Verde Hotel. Not everyone would have the option to abandon their booked accommodation and find safer, better lodging for an annual vacation. The home was clean, but it wasn't safe or well maintained. Carolina, the manager of Roses Village, was very nice and helpful, but unfortunately didn't understand a client's basic expectations when renting a vacation home. Are there standards in Portugal that a bed and breakfast has to meet? If not, there should be. The advertising needs to be more transparent too. The pictures don't tell the truth. Regardless of how much space guests rent, there's a problem here that the owners and manager should address.
