Herdade do Kuanza

The bedbug problem was very disappointing. I had more than 30 bites over four nights, and they looked unmistakably like bedbug bites. I also found an empty shell while checking the mattress. The reactions took a while to show up, so I only suspected bedbugs on our last morning, when there wasn’t anything the hosts could have done for us. I told Susan, and she said they usually clean the aparments carefully and would check the bed. Looking at it myself, I saw that the large mattress had been flipped at some point, and its current underside had a lot of dirty marks. I don’t know if those were from bedbugs or something else. It’s a shame, because the rest of the apartment was super clean and well looked after. The outdoor areas at both the front and back were great, the kitchen was good, and the apartment was tidy and nicely furnished. We got fresh bread and a big bowl of berries every morning, and there was a swimming pool. Susan communicated well too. We could check in late and got another blanket when we asked. Without the bedbugs, I’d have called this one of the nicest places we’ve stayed during our travels.

We were made to feel very welcome. Fresh bread and berries were provided as a courtesy in the morning, and it was a very nice place.

We only booked one night and wished we’d stayed a whole week. Carmo was such a lovely host, and the house, gardens, pool, and all the little details were wonderful. The service was fabulous. We’ll definitely be back. Thanks for everything, Carmo!
