Hotel Cecilia

I've stayed at a number of hotels in Paraguay, and now that this is my fourth visit, I feel sure enough to post: this classic hotel is incredible value, with service that’s hard to beat. I'm having lunch poolside on the top floor right now. The Caprese chicken may be the best chicken dish I've ever had. The food, including the free breakfast, is outstanding for the prices. No idea how they manage it. The beds are very comfortable, especially for aching bones, the place is super clean, and the sheets feel five-star. There's a gym, and the staff are the best I've encountered in all of Paraguay. The layout and design are pretty unique too. You can't go wrong staying here!

The rooms were spacious and clean, with very comfortable beds and pillows. The staff gave excellent service, and we appreciated how well they spoke English as well as Spanish. Breakfast was included and amazing. Best coffee, freshly made chipa, and fruit that was ripe and fresh.

The people working there are really attentive and pleasant, and the food is yummy. I found the hotel beautiful and very comfortable. There's a nice view from the rooftop, where there's also a pool. I recommend it.

I stayed seven nights after initially booking three in a superior room, Blue suite. I had arrived in Asunción without a reservation, but knew I wanted either Crowne Plaza or Cecilia since both had the basics I needed: AC, a gym, breakfast, and a central location. I went to Cecilia from the airport to look around. The woman who welcomed me was kind and showed me the available rooms and gym. I'm glad I chose it. It's an older building, which gives it its charm, and the family-owned hotel has an interesting story in the lobby. The family still runs the place, works reception, and gives it a personal touch. My room was spacious, with a king bed, plenty of room to spread out, good Wi-Fi, a hot shower with strong water pressure, and, most of all, quiet. The AC worked great. It was an interior room with a limited view inside, but the tradeoff was no street traffic noise. There's a fridge for your own food and wine. Biggie, a 24/7 convenience store and grocery shop, is two blocks away and has what you might need for a longer stay, including wine, beer, snacks, and fruit. Breakfast was included, and I enjoyed it every day. There was a good variety of fresh fruit, cereal, eggs, and the usual things. The La Preferida restaurant is attached to the hotel and has the same owners. It serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I ate there once for each meal and enjoyed them. The rooftop is wonderful, with a pool and lots of seating. Each night I had a bottle of wine in the refreshing evening breeze, looking out over Asuncion. I used the gym on the fifth floor every day. The equipment is old and free weights are limited, but if you know your way around a gym you can still get a good workout. It was consistently 95-100+F in Asunción during my stay, and the gym's two air conditioners helped, though it still gets extremely hot. I'd suggest keeping the window shades down during the day. The equipment could use gradual upgrades, like a new bench, barbell, and treadmill. A few other improvements would help: a desk chair suitable for long computer sessions, since the chair in my room wasn't; and a 'do not disturb' sign for the door. I'm especially grateful to the owners and staff for their truly wonderful personal service and help during my stay. I'd definitely return.
