Liebling Hotel

The location was convenient, within walking distance of the beach and a few shops, and the welcome was warm. Everything was very clean. No one spoke English, but Google Translate came in handy. The sound insulation wasn’t great, and after using the bathroom there was a strange sewage smell. I suspect the toilet was missing a U-bend. There was hot water and breakfast was good. Parking was on the street, and I felt very safe.

The staff, from reception to the kitchen and cleaning, were all polite and helpful. The food was good, including the complimentary breakfast, though the mixed drinks felt expensive for what you got. We were given a discount because they only had a three-person room available for the two of us. The room itself was pretty good, but the location wasn’t great. I felt mostly safe inside the hotel, while the area outside and around it seemed questionable at night. The TV wasn’t connected to Wi-Fi, and Netflix, Amazon, and HBO Max didn’t work even after connecting it to the internet. There was shampoo and conditioner but no soap. We had hot water only on the first day. The power also went out during our stay. There’s a generator, but it barely powered one light and couldn’t run the air conditioning. Good hotel for the price, though.

It was fine for our one-night stop near the border. We needed to catch an early bus to Asuncion the next morning, and this basic hotel was close by.

I booked two nights through Expedia and got a clean, nice room on the third floor with a king bed. Everything worked. There was a living room and a separate bedroom divided by a door. The area around the building was kind of blah, but the little BBQ and burger place brought a street party at night with food and good times. If you don’t join in, you can barely hear it from the room.
