The lobby was the most beautiful one I've ever seen in person, and the rest of the stay was great for us. It's a good spot for a family holiday too, with a horse riding school where you can book a session, plus oryx and camels. The pool was being renovated when we visited, and the area around it wasn't very nice. The breakfast room is by the pool, and there was bird shit all over the floor outside its gate. A quick clean would have made that fine. It's a bit far from the city center, but that didn't bother us. Taxis to town or Mall of Qatar cost a reasonable amount, and you can take the train from the mall to the city center to save some money. Fuel is cheap, too.
