Le Saint Alexis

At 160€ a night in july, I thought it was a must do. We loved the hotel's design, especially after dark, when the lighting felt really romantic. We left the curtains open so the blue glow from the inner-pools reached our second-floor room. Marvelous. Sure, you could say the place is showing its age after 30 years.

The breakfast was great, and the breakfast staff were so welcoming. Being right by the beach with direct access is lovely too. Still, we expected more for what we paid. The bathroom drains were clogged when we arrived, and after eating at the restaurant one evening, we found they didn't have experience with allergenes. It must have been a nice hotel once, but it needs to be redone. Too expensive for what you get, even with that beach location.

By the end of our stay, we liked the place, the beach, and wanted to come back. It takes a bit of getting used to, but the longer we stayed, the more we liked it. The beach right outside is top notch, though not for swimming, and the outdoor pool is great. The rooms are old and basic, and there's terrible wifi. Staff speak almost no English. Breakfast is on the top floor, where you can see the whales. Driving around the island showed us that this is one of the few resorts right on the beach.

We'd stay at the Saint Alexis again. It's a mid-size hotel right on the beach, with bars and restaurants only a short walk away. The suite had a sea view and a bathtub/whirlpool, but no shower. It was spacious, though a little outdated. The room and shared areas were clean, and the staff were very friendly, though most spoke French. The connected pools are a nice setup, especially since sea activities are forbidden because of frequent shark attacks around the island. Dinner at the bar and restaurant has a dress code, no shorts, muscle shirts, or flip flops. The hotel feels intimate and family like. From the airport, it took about 45 min by car in low traffic, or 1h30 at rush hour.
