Red Hotel

The price was reasonable, and I’d stay again if I needed to. We didn’t have breakfast, though the coffee wasn’t great. At night it could get noisy from a barking dog and birds in a yard, and there’s no nice view. The service was very polite. Inside, the place looks new and quite good, even if the outside first looks odd, like a block of flats with “hotel” written on it. Our triple room was very clean, with enough space for three single beds and a fairly large bathroom. The towels, sheets, and mattress were all good quality. It’s a very good hotel for a three-star place in a small city.

I stayed here twice, once a few years ago and again last week. When this was the only decent hotel in Alexandria, it could pass as an okay option, but little seems to have changed and it now feels dated. The bathroom smelled really bad, and the furniture was old enough that I kept my clothes in my luggage instead of the wardrobe. It was decent enough for a night or two, but I wouldn’t recommend it now, since there are much better options in Alexandria. Also, during the pandemic, nobody at the hotel wore a mask as required by law, not even an ineffective one below the chin.

There’s no elevator, so you have to carry your luggage up four floors. The rooms have no hair dryer, and the air conditioner has no remote, though they’ll give you one if you ask.

We stayed for a week, and the room and bathroom were a good size. Coffee was free in the morning. The hotel was well priced for the area and close to restaurants and shops. There’s another hotel with a similar name in Alexandria, so be careful when entering it into your GPS.
