Pensiunea Rhein

The historic cellars are a major part of a stay at Pensiunea Rhein. Guests can tour them, hear about traditional sparkling wine production, and take part in wine tastings. Rhein Cellars has made sparkling wine continuously since 1892, making it an important part of Romania’s wine history. The guesthouse is part of Rhein Azuga Wine Cellars, established in 1892, and combines that heritage with modern comforts in the picturesque town of Azuga, Romania. The rooms are spacious and very clean, and the peaceful garden is a nice place to relax. Staff are super nice, friendly, and helpful. At the on-site Pivnițele Rhein Restaurant, the atmosphere is elegant but cozy, and the menu features traditional Romanian food with locally produced wines. Guests have praised the food, wine, and location, and recommendations include the perișoare soup and delicious duck with cabbage.

The grounds are beautiful and peaceful, and we really enjoyed staying in the lovely, comfortable rooms on site. Staff were very friendly and spoke English. The cellar tour and tasting are a must, it was so interesting to learn how the wines are made. Their sparkling wines use the champagne style and are as delicious as any champagne. The restaurant was tasty and reasonably priced too. This place is insanely good, and we’re so glad we came. Thanks to the staff for a lovely visit, we’ll be back!

The wine is special, and it’s a relaxing place with comfortable beds and a nice view. Staff are very kind, and the amenities are nice. The food is really good, with traditional Romanian dishes as well as vegetarian combinations. Strongly recommended!

We stayed five days over the New Year period, but the place felt monotonous, and we didn’t leave wanting to return. If you have trouble sleeping or want to relax, be aware that the mattresses are unbelievably hard. I’ve traveled a lot, and these were so uncomfortable that my arms and back ached badly. There’s nowhere to put bathroom amenities except the sink edge, with no shelves, and the staff are unanimously unhelpful. The housekeeper was the happiest person there. It’s an old champagne cellar with a museum, but it wasn’t available to guests staying at the property. They didn’t offer a complimentary cup as a welcome or even for New Year. There’s no lounge or other place to spend time playing games or doing activities. Tourists come to the restaurant; the food is OK, but nothing special. The slope is about 2 km away, around a 30-minute walk.
