Pensiunea Izvoare

We didn’t stay here, so this is just about the restaurant. It’s a small, cozy place with a home-like feel, and the staff were friendly and helpful on both visits. We weren’t kept waiting long. The food was very good overall. We had dinner and the lunch menu of the day. The pasta was cooked properly, the mititei were juicy, and the other plates we saw looked appealing. Portions were decent to large. The meatloaf soup, ciorba de perisoare, could have been tastier and more sour, but the stewed cabbage made up for it. I’d have preferred fresh sausages to Cabanos, though that’s just my preference. The pancakes were the best we tried in Olanesti, including both the batter and jam. We sampled them at 3-4 places. There are thoughtful touches on the tables: real olive oil, balsamic vinegar, Himalayan salt in a mill, and 5-brands pepper in a mill. At the other Olanesti restaurants we visited or saw from outside, it was ground salt and pepper, white vinegar, and tasteless oil, if there was oil at all. The cutlery was good quality too. Prices are reasonable, though it isn’t the cheapest place or in the fancy range. For reference, the menu of the day with soup, a second course and side dish, and dessert was 35 lei. Mititei were 4 lei/pc, and beetroot salad was 7 lei. I warmly recommend it.

The location is one of the best things about this place, and the food is good. Our room was spacious, comfortable, clean, and well maintained, with large windows. It can be a bit noisy, though. Very good value overall.

The rooms were infested, and the service was poor. I wouldn’t recommend going there.
