Bucur's Shelter Hostel

I've travelled all over the world, and this is one of the best hostels I've stayed at. The staff are friendly, open, helpful, and great company over a drink. The beds are comfortable, and while the kitchen is a bit small, it's a great place to meet people. If you want five-star accommodation, go to a hotel. But for travel, meeting people, and getting to know Bucharest, Bucur's is hard to beat.

The walk into the old town took about ten minutes, which made up for the quiet, rather lifeless neighborhood. At Bucur's Shelter, the shared areas felt cozy and had everything we needed, plus there’s a courtyard for smoking. The beds were comfortable and the staff were super friendly. There’s no AC, but my room had a fan, and leaving the windows open was enough for me to sleep okay in the summer heat. I really enjoyed staying here and would come back.

We only stayed one night, but it was a pleasant visit. The rooms aren’t especially large, though they’re perfectly fine, and the staff were kind and ready to help. I also liked the funny, creative instructions posted around the hostel. It’s a really nice place.

The free breakfast was a letdown: eggs you had to cook yourself, stale, awful crackers and spread, and no fruit. The walk to the city center is a little long but manageable. Downstairs there’s a pleasant spot to relax, and the receptionist and volunteers were very friendly and helpful.
