The food alone makes Septembrie worth the stop. We had fresh fish to start, then duck that was tender and clearly cooked with care, followed by a filling papanuska dessert and some very good rosé. The menu mixes local dishes with a few non-Romanian options, and they can really cook. Getting there is part of the experience: the drive through southern Romania has lovely scenery, though the road by the river and over the mountains is small and wobbly. You pass little villages that feel untouched by time. On arrival, the place almost feels like a tiny five-star resort. The woman at reception greeted us warmly. The building and rooms look new, with a modern, minimal style that still feels cozy. The room itself was basic, but that view made up for it. Service was friendly; their English was about as good as my Chinese, around four words, but it didn't spoil anything. There are plenty of nice day trips nearby, so there’s lots to see and do. I’d recommend it 1000%. It’s a bit of a drive for me to return, but never say never.
