Pension Criveanu

The owners and staff didn’t speak English, but they tried to communicate with us and made us feel welcome. Our room was quiet enough and had an enormous bed. Breakfast was a good, honest homemade spread of local things like cheese and cold cuts. I wish there had been more fruit, though that seemed to be the case throughout our Romania trip, even with watermelons everywhere and grape season underway.

We stayed twice about a month apart, and both visits were amazing. After six weeks of traveling, these were among the cleanest, nicest, and best-kept buildings we’d come across. The hosts are kind and know their stuff, and one morning they even brought coffee to my door. We can’t wait to return. If you need somewhere to stay in Horezu, this is the place. The first time, we had the apartment in the main house with our two daughters, one still an infant. It let us close off rooms while keeping control of the heat, and still had our own TV. The shower was great, with music and lots of unusual settings. The beds were a good size, and all the rooms had fridges. On our second visit we stayed upstairs in the back building. We could push the beds together to make a huge sleeping area, around 11 feet or something ridiculous, and one bed had a very high back that helped box off our toddler. Downstairs there was a full-size kitchen with a coffee maker and DVD player, things we didn’t come across often.

The best breakfast I could have imagined. A very good first stop on a trip.

A nice place with a lovely garden, though you “cannot” really use it. Some of the rooms aren’t up to scratch.
