Hotel Majestic

The location is great, but the rest was awful. Breakfast was nothing but sad, old food. The rooms were mediocre, and a colleague in another room even woke up with marks from bug bites. I don’t recommend it.

The room was old and dated, smelled of cigarettes, and wasn’t clean. The curtains looked like they hadn’t been washed in ages, the carpets were stained, and the chairs were marked and dirty. The bed and pillows were uncomfortable, and the hairdryer was broken. I only booked one night, and couldn’t imagine staying longer. Things had already got off to a bad start when I arrived late at night. The staff member was asleep on a sofa in reception, which had been set up like a bed with pillows and winter blankets. I felt sorry for her, but it wasn’t a good first impression. I’d asked specifically for a double bed and was given a twin room instead. Then I was asked to fill in a detailed form myself, something I’d never had to do on all my travels. It felt like going back in time. After this stay, I’m not sure I’d consider the place again.

The hotel’s only real advantages now are its central location, the minibar with refreshments, and the comfortable beds. We stayed years ago when it was new and pleasant, but it no longer feels the same. Everything looks old and has been neglected for years. The antique-style furniture is shabby and damaged, and the carpets and wallpaper are stained and an odd color. The sheets were clean but looked used, as did the bathroom towels. The bathroom has basic facilities, but the strong drain smell meant we couldn’t leave the door open. The restaurant was closed. Breakfast was served in the old basement hall, accessible only from outside the hotel. It was poor and repetitive. The fridges weren’t working, so the butter was almost melted, and the vegetables tasted unpleasant and were inedible. They offered only one kind of white bread, and it was tasteless. For the conditions they offer, it’s far too expensive and definitely not a three-star hotel at present.

The neighborhood was quiet, and parking was free with plenty of space. The hotel itself feels worn out now, despite perhaps having been impressive before. The bathroom smelled bad from poor drainage, and the towels were old, dingy, and not fresh smelling. During my three-night stay, neither the towels nor the sheets were changed. Breakfast was identical every day, and I couldn't make tea because the hot water machine was broken. There were mosquitoes, so bring your own repellent or killer, since the hotel doesn't provide one.
