Phoenicia Holiday Resort

We went in summer 2025 and I strongly wouldn't recommend it. There was no parking available, and the rooms were so-so, really outdated apartments with almost no cleaning. Our room was very noisy if you were near the street. The pools were old and ugly, the restaurant was packed, and so on.

The beach is nice and wide, and there are plenty of drinks. It's a big, pleasant resort, with rooms in a style similar to the well-known Phoenicia. The pool has lots of slides for kids, maybe only up to age 9, plus a medium-sized pool and a big pool.

We'd stayed here years ago and it was okay, but this visit with family was pretty mediocre for the price. We booked two apartments. When we arrived, people were yelling at reception after being without electricity for more than 15 hours. The kitchen in my parents' apartment was really run down. The original oven was gone, leaving an empty hole, and there was a small induction cooker, but the only pot wasn't induction compatible, so it couldn't be used. Our apartment had only a microwave and no cooker. We turned it on and it smoked, then stopped working. We booked for four people but got only one thick blanket, which wasn't good with kids. You can definitely find better in Mamaia. I wouldn't recommend it.

Our stay at Phoenicia Holiday Resort from June 20-23, 2025 was mostly positive. The facilities were pleasant, and the staff were generally friendly and helpful. But check-out left us disappointed. We were told at check-in that we could stay on the premises until 6 PM on departure day and keep the pool towels until then. Around noon, my wife went to reception to check out. Carla raised her voice, demanded the towels, and spoke rudely when my wife calmly explained what we'd been told. Carla abruptly asked for her ID. When my wife asked whether she also needed the credit card as a guarantee, Carla replied, “That's all,” in a dismissive tone. At 6 PM we returned the towels and got the ID back. Because of the earlier interaction, I asked to speak with a manager. Mohammed, who said he was the acting manager, told me no other manager was available. With Carla and other guests there, he dismissed my concerns, said Carla was always friendly, and made it seem like our account wasn't valid. I agreed staff can generally be friendly, but I was talking about what happened that day. Mohammed didn't show understanding or apologize, and came across as unhelpful. Carla's behavior was unprofessional and left a bad impression at the end of our stay. Mohammed's response made us feel disregarded and invalidated instead of resolving the issue or showing care for guests. I hope the feedback is taken constructively. We otherwise enjoyed the resort, and better handling of situations like this could improve the guest experience.
