Apollo Hotel

We'll definitely be back. The rooms were clean, and there was plenty of choice at the buffet. The music by the pool and in the evening was very pleasant. Special thanks to Alexandra at reception and Claudiu in the restaurant for being so friendly and helpful. Congratulations to the chef and kitchen staff too. An awful stay, and I wouldn't come back. The staff weren't helpful, and parking wasn't guaranteed. Our room was dirty, with hair on the towels, a moldy smell, and dirt. We even had to buy our own bed sheets and pillowcases. The TV remote didn't work, the screen was broken, and so was the shower. Despite having a baby, we were given a room near the pool, DJ, and restaurant, and there was no quiet until after 11:30 pm. I suspect the good reviews were written by the staff.

I expected less and got more than enough, so I'll come back next year. For a three-star place, the rooms are fine for the price, even if they're not huge, and the cleaning service was good. The staff were very friendly, the breakfast met my expectations and then some, and there's a pool too. Some people may have high expectations for a three-star hotel or complain about the prices, but those reflect Romanian price levels, so I wouldn't take the bad reviews at face value. I'd give it a try, though not in mid-season, when prices here are generally higher.

Stay away. This is at most a two-star hotel, and that's only for the renovated section. The older rooms have worn-out furniture from before 1989 and shouldn't be rented to guests. My room wasn't renovated. The furniture was extremely old, there was a bad smell throughout, especially from the bathroom when the water was running, and the sink and shower gave off a smell that was impossible to tolerate. The small cathode-ray TV had a terrible signal, or sometimes none. There was no AC, though rusty supports for an external AC unit were still hanging on the balcony. The mini-fridge was unusable, rusty, and smelled awful inside, like it might have held a whole bacterial colony. The Wi-Fi didn't work. Breakfast was despicable. There weren't enough tables for the number of guests, so people crowded outside the restaurant waiting for a seat. The food was the worst quality, with three colors of salami that seemed to show different ages. Nobody came to clean the room during our three-day stay, and the breakfast staff were rude and seemed not to care about guests or their safety. There's also a restaurant beside the hotel with bad live music late at night, so getting rest or sleep isn't really possible. The parking has at most ten spaces that count as legal parking. The rest are on the grass around the hotel.
