We weren’t looking for luxury. We just asked politely about breakfast, heating and towels, and the defensive, rude response made the stay uncomfortable. We never complained aggressively. The repeated reminder that we’d paid “the cheapest price” felt like an excuse to withhold basic courtesy. Thanks for eventually bringing the radiator and extra towels, but I hope future guests are treated more kindly. I’ve traveled through 24 countries, including Argentina, Italy, France, Germany, Switzerland, Austria, Spain, Malta, Romania, Chile, Paraguay, Colombia, Perú, Mexico, USA, Uruguay, Brazil, England, Monaco, the Netherlands, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary and Poland. I’ve stayed in hostels, budget places, apartments, boutique hotels and luxury hotels. Everywhere else, when I asked for an extra blanket or heating, or clean towels because the wet ones wouldn’t dry in the cold, people answered kindly and professionally. Hospitality isn’t about being a five-star hotel, it’s about treating guests with basic respect. When I asked about the breakfast price and hours, I assumed there might be availability, as there is in many places. A simple explanation would have been enough. Instead, we got that same defensive tone during our stay and in the messages afterwards.
