Pensiunea Muntele Verde

The dogs barking through the night, along with the cocks, made it hard to sleep. There were two or three stray dogs in the yard, and they looked dirty and scratched themselves near the garden tables. I didn't like that the host let them stay on the property. I paid for a double bedroom apartment, but what we got was a bedroom with an extended sofa that creaked and wasn't comfortable. Breakfast was especially disappointing for three paying adults and two children staying free: there was nothing included for the kids, and we would have had to pay extra. On day one we got some vegetables and eggs, two thin slices of yellow cheese, four pieces of salami, two slices of some kind of ham, four tiny sausages, and one small hotel butter. By day three, the portions of cheese, ham, and sausages were cut in half. That cost 25 RON, about 5 Euro.

The restaurant worked well for us: they asked beforehand what we wanted from the menu, the food was fresh each time, and we ate there most days. The dishes were average to good compared with town restaurants. Outside, there’s a large garden with a children’s playground, trampoline, swings, wooden playhouse, table football, a certified pool table, and a football court at the back. The court looks like it had synthetic grass at some point. There’s also a swimming pool, though it was closed because of the low temperature during our visit. The building is fairly new, clean, and well cared for. Our double deluxe room was long and narrow, with a balcony, TV, fridge, a bar unit, and an interesting decorative Himalayan salt feature. We came at the end of September, when nights fell below 15 degrees C, and the heating wasn’t on. The AC heated the room well enough. There’s an extendable sofa, but you can only use it if you pay for three people, and the owner said only the room maid can extend it. They don’t provide sheets for it unless it’s paid for. The room is set up for two people and one child. The 160x200 double bed was quite large and comfortable, and they gave our child an extra pillow for free.

The large terrace was a lovely place to relax, with a great view, and our room was spacious and clean. There’s a pool on the property too. Breakfast came with the stay and was generous, fresh, and delicious. The restaurant has a limited selection, but what we tried was tasty, and the staff were kind. Parking is in the inner yard. It’s very conveniently located for visiting the nearby Slănic Salt Mine, and the big salt lamp in the room made for a relaxing atmosphere before our visit. We really enjoyed staying here.

The breakfast came as a fixed portion rather than a buffet, with only a few choices, and the food overall was average with little variety. The pool is small, not very clean, and the water isn't salty. The chairs around it were so uncomfortable that my back still hurts, so bring a pillow. The backyard smelled like a privy, and dogs barked all night. It might have felt friendly if the hosts knew how to run this kind of business. My friends were made to switch rooms because someone else had reserved theirs and wanted that specific room. The hosts didn't seem to care that my friend was eight months pregnant, and put her on the second floor without even apologizing. Last time we'll visit. Sorry! :(
