We spent July here with the family, and the hosts made the stay easy, even arranging trips along the canals. The rooms were clean, roomy, and comfortable for families, and there was an above-ground pool where the kids could swim while we had wine and enjoyed the scenery. The food was a highlight, with a different excellent meal each day. We also got to watch traditional fish soup being cooked in a cauldron over an open fire in the yard. I can't speak to whether they do that every week, but the soup seemed worthy of five Michelin stars. Sulina itself wasn't in great shape, yet this peaceful spot changed how we felt about the place. The beach is a lovely 10-minute trip away and the delta is right there too. A great choice for families.

The yard is a big part of the appeal, with swings, hammocks, a trampoline and a pool, and the little houses all face into it. Evenings were peaceful. There's a restaurant on site and we liked the food; the staff were kind, and we also joined one of their canal trips. Our room was fine and had mosquito nets everywhere. I did have one problem: the air conditioning in my room wouldn't cool. Someone came to repair it, but it only ran as a fan. If you're coming in the hottest part of summer, I'd check that before booking.

Apartment 4 was a cozy place to stay, with a balcony, one double bed in the first room and two single beds in the second. The location worked well, about five minutes on foot from town and a half-hour walk from Sulina's amazing beach. The downsides were dusty windows on both sides and water leaking out of the shower.
