La Jolie Maison

The apartment's size was its one real advantage. It had a main bedroom with a double bed and sofa, a living room with a table, sofa and sofa-bed, a small room with two single beds, plus a kitchen and bathroom. The small room and living room were separated by a wooden wall that did little to block sound. We reserved the Deluxe Apartment through booking.com for 3 Adults, with 1 double Bed, 2 Single Beds and 1 Sofa-Bed listed. The location was good, about 10-15 minutes on foot from the city center, main attractions and many restaurants. We arrived around 11pm after contacting the owner on WhastApp, and finding parking outside was easy. We expected clean bed lines for at least 3 people, as the description said they would be provided. Instead, only the main room was made up. After searching around, we found dusty bed lines, but no mattress cover, so we put towels over the old, dusty mattresses. The pillows were old and stained with sweat, so we used our jackets instead. The single beds creaked, and their dusty, old mattresses sagged so far that we could feel the base. The sofa-bed was hard, wobbly and noisy. Its middle division pressed into your back, and sleeping on one side could tip the sofa over when you turned, possibly onto the floor. There was no privacy. The floor creaked whenever someone walked around, and we could hear activity in the other rooms, kitchen and bathroom, as well as the neighbor arriving and not finding his keys. There were also unprotected cables on the floor, so take care if you have children. If you have a dust allergy, bring plenty of tissues, because the place was very dusty. The kitchen was large but old, with a small sink and a stove we didn't try. Some dishes and cutlery were supplied. The large refrigerator smelled bad and had mold inside. We also found pistachio shells on the table and chairs. In the bathroom, the washing machine's condition was unclear, and the shower had no curtain, so water spilled everywhere. This was the worst place we slept during our trip around Rumania, and one of the most expensive apartments we rented. I don't mind old furniture or buildings if they're clean and in decent condition, but this place wasn't, and it didn't even have enough clean bed lines. It felt like a theft. In Braşov we paid 25 lei less for an apartment just as large, fully renovated and super clean, right in the city center, with incredible attention from the host.
