We were there in mid-September and had great weather. It's a really nice, clean place, with friendly people, a bus to the beach, and plenty of sun loungers.
The food was tasty, though breakfast got a bit repetitive. There was enough choice to pick something different each day, and 3-4 lunch and dinner dishes changed daily while the rest stayed the same. Between meals there were snacks like watermelon, croissants, chocolate donuts, pies, and pâtés. Kids had morning beach activities, afternoon pool activities, and evening terrace events, while adults could enjoy live music. The Nepalese staff were much kinder than the Romanian employees. I left tips on the bed for the cleaning ladies and found them neatly moved to the bedside table, which made me smile. Reception was friendly and prompt. I was given a room as soon as I arrived at 11 am. The rooms were very clean, with daily visits from the cleaning ladies, towel changes, and linen changed every other day. Both the children's and adults' pools were clean and well maintained, though the surface around them was a little slippery. The private beach is clean and looked after. You can take the resort bus or walk 12-15 minutes to get there. The beach bar is a bit far from the loungers, but has the same drinks as the hotel, plus ice cream, and the guys working there are very friendly. A few things could be better: drinking water is only at reception and in the restaurant, and coffee is only at the restaurant and terrace, not in the hotel. There are no ashtrays by the pool or on the terrace unless you ask for one. Still, it was a successful stay for me, about 8/10. So it can be done here too!
The biggest hassle was the queues during the busy St. Mary's mini-holiday. There was only one person at reception, so check-in and checkout took a long time. The restaurant was crowded too, and we had to wait for plates and cutlery to be brought out, as well as some of the food, though staff kept replenishing it. The hotel is well below Mera Onix and Mera Resort in service, but decent for a three-star place in Romania. I'd come back for just 2-3 days in a quieter period. We stayed three nights. The evening shows added some fun, and the hotel bus goes to its own beach between Venus and Saturn. Food was generally decent, with lots of different cakes for dessert. The room had recently been renovated in the usual Mera style, modern and clean. The pool was okay and had enough sunbeds. Parking in front of Irina hotel was asphalted, while the area behind was cobblestone but decent and easy to drive into. The floor in the room made it look older, and carpet or another kind of parquet would have felt nicer. All in all, it was an okay few days of relaxation, with its share of pluses and minuses.
I found bed bugs in the room I was given, which is unacceptable. I alerted the staff right away, but the way they responded and handled it was deeply disappointing and unprofessional. Cleanliness and hygiene are basic to running a hotel, and finding bed bugs points to a serious lack of control and maintenance. I don't recommend the place and want management to take urgent, visible steps to fix the problems, because incidents like this put guests' health and comfort at risk. They offered me a room on a higher floor and at first refused to accept the difference in price. I paid it after insisting, and told them I would file the complaint with the competent authorities as promised. They assured me my clothes would be washed so I wouldn't risk bringing bed bugs home. Later, the manager scolded me for contacting her personal number and hung up. The staff were impertinent, provocative, and totally disrespectful, treating my requests and the commitments they'd agreed to with indifference. I think it's especially serious that the public review I posted on the official hotel page was later hidden. That suggests a lack of transparency and a wish to conceal guests' negative experiences. I've attached supporting photos.
Only the children's pool was beautiful. But when the children got out, they slipped like they were on ice skates. The rest of our stay was awful. Mera holiday looked nice on the surface, but our room had bedbugs. The rooms seemed very clean, yet the bugs came out at night and bit the children, the husbands, and then me at home too. I had to empty the house and throw things away so I could spray. I know this from my own experience, and what you see looking wonderful online isn't all true. The manager and staff treated us with total indifference, and the manager seemed very relaxed about our money. We spent a lot on their canteen services, and it ruined my holiday. It didn't deserve even two stars. I've attached pictures to show what happened. Please, good people, don't go to Mera Holiday, or you may bring bedbugs home and wreck your home too.
