Hotel Brilliant Meseș

The room was the weak point for us. Its furniture was old and damaged, water leaked from both the broken radiator and the small shower tray, and neither the toilet nor the sink was properly secured to the floor. Our window looked over the hotel’s warehouse, where we could hear employees talking late at night and early in the morning. Other guests were also loud in the lobbies, talking and laughing, though that’s not something the management can be blamed for. The shared areas were tastefully decorated, and the summer garden was beautifully arranged. Staff were kind and professional. I also appreciated the cleanliness and the variety of fresh breakfast items. The hotel sits in a very quiet part of Zalău, which is generally a quiet, uncrowded city, just a stone’s throw from the center. The experience was okay, but I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you need a good rest.

The beds are great, and everything was tidy. The newly renovated rooms with air conditioning were fine, though the shower curtain still couldn’t keep water from flooding the bathroom. At times there was also a bad smell from the drain. The summer outdoor restaurant is what made the stay worthwhile for me. The food was great for a fair price, and it’s a really nice spot to spend the evening.

The restaurant food was pretty good, but both nights of my weekend stay, Saturday and Sunday, had private parties there, a wedding and a baptism. The music got quite loud, and my room was on the 1st floor. You can tell it’s an old hotel that’s been renovated recently. The rooms are cozy, though the TV seems small for the room. In winter, heat from the radiator gets trapped behind the drapes.

The summer garden restaurant next to the hotel is a nice spot, but the food was somewhat expensive and not very tasty. They seem to present it as a high-class restaurant, though the menu is average. The hotel feels outdated, with old furniture, including in the bathroom. The staff were somewhat indifferent, though helpful, so don’t expect smiles.
