Hotel Metropol Palace Belgrade

The rooftop restaurant was easily the hotel's best feature. The staff were friendly and professional, and everything else was great. But although it's rated as a 5-star hotel on paper, it feels more like a 4-star property in practice. It definitely needs renovation.

The staff have been extremely kind. After we raised some issues, they got in touch and fixed several things, including the missing bath robe. We also had a great breakfast, and I added photos of it. I'd seen people say the coffee machine didn't work, but I can confirm it was working that morning. They also gave us a bottle of wine as a courtesy, without us asking, and we're grateful for their kindness. Our score went up from 3 to 4. We booked the Junior suite for around 130 usd per night on a midweek deal, and the regular rooms seemed like a good way to save. It's a good hotel, and we're still getting to know it after one night. The location is extremely convenient, with food options nearby even at 11 PM. Our room was big and very clean, though the shower floor was stained with what looked like permanent residue despite appearing clean. The conditioner bottle didn't work, and we planned to ask for a fix tomorrow. There was only one shower robe for two people in the suite, which also affected my score. Light sleepers should know that traffic can be heard even on the 9th floor. It's not too loud, but the hotel is on a very main road in Belgrade. The room gets too dark at night, so bring a prtable gadget light if you have one. We spent some time in the spa and gym. The gym is well equipped, with sports sessions, mostly pillatis, available for an extra 11 euros per session. I attached a photo of the sessions for my week during February. The pool was OK, though there aren't many chairs and its layout is mostly for swimming laps. The jacuzzi is small, has very strong jets in the center that send water into your face most of the time, and has limited seating. With two sides without seats, it can fit maybe 4 people. It cost us 2100 RSD / 20 USD to reach the hotel from the airport via ride share. A normal taxi was 2400, so there wasn't much saving. All in all, I think we'll have a good time here for the rest of our nights.

The apology letter we found in the room that evening was a thoughtful gesture, and the problem did eventually get resolved. Still, getting there took extra effort from us, and the service didn’t feel as attentive as I’d expect at a five-star hotel. I’d prepaid for a separate room for my guest. We’d been told the key would go straight to the registered occupant, but that didn’t happen. When I went to the front desk to sort it out, I was told the team was busy and couldn’t help at that time. I’m sharing this in the hope future arrivals go more smoothly. It seemed like a situation that could have been handled pretty easily.

The dining experience stood out thanks to Vojislav Sremcevic, the Restaurant Manager. He was polite, respectful, and professional, and paid close attention to the details. Kristina Jevtic also deserves a special thank you for her warm hospitality, professionalism, and support. Everything else was excellent too, from the cleanliness and comfort to the atmosphere and service. I had a wonderful stay, and I’ll definitely choose this hotel again.
